03/11/1916 she left Greenore in a gale and was swept across the bows of the SS Retreiver which was also in difficulty with a shifting cargo off Carlingford Bar. Neither could take avaoiding action, Connemara sank in 5 minutes with all on board and the retreiver 10 minutes later with one survivour
