10/06/1818 certificate of William Denny and reg same day. 18/6/1818 sailed Glasgow on maiden Glasgow-Dublin service (first seagoing regular steamer service); also served Arrochar 1818-1820 also on Belfast-Glasgow service 1819 altered by Robert Nicoll 5/1821 engine room enlarged and hold reduced by William Lockie, Glasgow 6/1821 first regular steamer on the Dover-Calais service. 26/6/1821 struck pier arriving at Calais and badly damaged - later repaired at Dover 6/1822 reported seized at Calais due to contraband on board and take over by French Post Office 7/1822 after refurbishment continued Calais-Dover service as first French steam packet 9/1830 replaced by new steamer LE COURRIER |

David Napier designed the hull. Claims that HENRI QUATRE was renamed DUC D'ORLEANS in 1824 appear mistaken - HENRI QUATRE is reported in service Calais-Dover until at least 2/1829, and probably 1830. |
