31/3/1887 stranded on a reef 6-7 miles off Lisiansky Island, Kingdom of Hawaii, about 1000 miles WNW of Honolulu and 200 miles SE of Midway Atoll (voyage Newcastle NSW for San Diego California, with coal).
1/4/1887 after attempts to refloat her and jettisoning 200 tons of coal she floated off but continued making water and sinking; crew took to two boats
2/4/1887 with AFTON almost sunk, the crew headed for the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii)
4/4/1887 making little headway against wind and currents, the changed course to westward for Ladrone (Mariana Islands)
24/4/1887 the chief mate accidentally fell overboard and drowned
later [when?] the crew reached Guam, after hospitable recovery shipped to Yokohama
16/6/1887 at Court of Enquiry in Yokohama, the master was held responssible through failure to have appropriate and updated charts.
