26/07/1873 Sailed from River Tyne with 1150 tons of coal for Leghorn, Italy. Subsequently, when off Tarifa, Straits of Gibraltar found to be down by the head with pumps having to be continuously in operation.
03/08/1873 Foundered south of Gibraltar, when pumps unable to cope with leak. Loss put down to loading excess iron ore on previous voyages with the resultant strain causing leaks.
