7/11/1879 returning on her maiden voyage she struck an iceberg
1894 laid up in Gareloch.
1898 she was sold to the US Government and rebuilt to 5,305 tons. Her yards were removed and one funnel deleted. She was fitted with a triple expansion engine and after this re-fit was renamed Hancock.
By 1903 she was serving the US Navy as a receiving ship at Brooklyn Navy Yard
