Torpedoed and shelled by U.172 in 27.50N - 46.00W on passage Barry for Curacao in ballast and sank on the following day. U-Boat was on her first patrol from Lorient into the North Atlantic. ATHELKNIGHT was the first of 27 sinkings until U-172 was destroyed in December 1943. |
