Disposal Detail
09/05/1874 sank after collision with the Liverpool steam tug, RETRIEVER, in the Irish Channel off Tuskar.
MARIANA sank almost immediately and RETRIEVER, which had been carrying mackerel between Kinsale and Milford, foundered a few hours later. Both crews were picked up by the steamer UNIVERSE and taken to Kinsale. Only one loss, that of a MARIANA crewman named Hoffman who returned to recover his trunk and went down with the ship.
