Disposal Detail |
24/04/1901 ran aground and wrecked off Tung Ying Island, NE of Foochow in dense fog (Shanghai for London with general cargo and 70 passengers). All on board were saved, with their possessions and the mails, and later some cargo salvaged. Attempts to refloat her with P&S's COROMANDEL (Caird, 1885) were unsuccessful and she was abandoned on 8/5/1901.
The loss stimulated the British Government to erect a lighthouse on Tung Ying Island, which still stands. |
